Even though Bangkok is one of the most bustling cities in the world, sandy getaways are just around the corner. If you’re craving beach fun, white sand and clear water, fret not! Here is a list of the five best beach activities near Bangkok.

Learn kitesurfing in Hua Hin
Back in the 1920s, Thai King Prajadhipok made Hua Hin his number one vacation spot. Since then, locals and travelers have flocked there to experience beach life the royal way. If kitesurfing is a sport you’ve always wanted to try, you’re in luck. A five-kilometre-long beach combined with the longest windy season in Thailand and numerous Kitesurfing schools make Hua Hin an ideal spot to learn this adventurous sport.

We recommend KBA (Kiteboarding Asia); the first kitesurfing school in Thailand. Their trained and friendly staff can help you master the basics of kitesurfing in six to twelve hours. You can also rent sports gear at reasonable prices here for other beach activities. Ask your Concierge to arrange for a car to Hua Hin, it’s just a three-hour drive from the DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit. If you have more time to spend in Hua Hin, stay at the Hilton Hua Hin Resort & Spa to experience all that this beach getaway has to offer.

Go parasailing in Pattaya
A visit to Pattaya is on every party-goer’s bucket list, but really, it should be on the adrenaline junkie’s. Situated about two hours by car from Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok the area is renowned for its picturesque beaches. While the legendary nightlife in Pattaya will kickstart your adrenaline, the real deals are the beach activities, especially parasailing (see main picture for a scene of parasailers off Pattaya’s beaches); which offers a unique view of the beach from the sky for as low as 600 baht (USD19) and doesn’t require any planning!

Just head over to Bali Hai Pier or Pattaya Beach and take your pick from one of the numerous operators offering Parasailing packages. Your operator will take you to a floating platform and get you all set for your adventure. If a day-trip isn’t enough to satiate your hunger for adventure, check into Hilton Pattaya to make the most of your time in Pattaya.

Snorkel at Coral Island
If you prefer spending the day floating above colourful corals and enjoying sunsets on pristine beaches, Koh Larn (also known as ‘Coral Island’) can’t be beaten. Its turquoise bay shelters thriving coral reefs and the clear transparent water makes it a popular snorkeling destination.

While Koh Larn has five main beaches, Ta Yai Beach, located on the island’s east coast at the backdrop of beautiful forested hills is perfect for escaping the crowds. It offers a relaxed vibe, plenty of snorkeling opportunities, and enchanting sunsets, making it one of our favourites at Koh Larn. Ta Yai is easily reachable via motorcycle taxis or shared taxis from Na Baan Pier. You can also rent a scooter to explore the island at your own pace.

While at Koh Larn, check out Kuan Yin Viewpoint for a sweeping view of Tawaen Beach; the most popular beach on the island. Although crowded, Tawaen Beach offers a variety of activities ranging from water sports and shopping to relaxing massages. Kuan Yin Viewpoint is located between Koh Larn Pier and Tawaen Beach. On your way up, don’t forget to pause for a picture at the beautiful giant Buddha.

Koh Larn is a three-hour drive from Bangkok and can be reached by speedboat. Take a ferry from Bali Hai Pier if you’re already in Pattaya.

The rocky terrain of Koh Samet

Explore Ko Samet on an ATV
Tired of overcrowded touristy places? With crystal clear water and lip-smacking seafood, Ko Samet is the place for you. It may be a two- to three-hour drive from the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sukhumvit Bangkok and a ferry ride, but Ko Samet is worth the trip. The best way to explore the island is via an ATV tour – the island’s swerving turns and bumpy dirt roads with a backdrop of lush wilderness make this a thrilling experience.

We recommend ATV Adventures Pattaya because you get expert ATV guides, adventure gear and personalised tours. Tour prices start at 2,900 baht (USD95). You can also have your ATV tour recorded for an additional charge of 1000 baht (USD32).

If you decide to stay till the evening, don’t forget to check out the fire shows at Ploybar at Ploy Talay Resort on Saikaew Beach. This nightclub, with its two dance floors is perfect for meeting new people and dancing the night away!

Dive with sharks at Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World
While this isn’t a beach, it is a 10-minute drive from the DoubleTree by Hilton Bangkok Ploenchit and you can dive in a safe environment. Sea Life Bangkok Ocean World is one of Southeast Asia’s largest aquariums, and is one of the few places you can take a shark dive with a qualified instructor. Get up close and personal with huge grey nurse and blacktip sharks, Southern stingrays, eagle rays and a myriad of other species. Prices start from 5,800 baht (USD191) for diving license holders and go up to 6,900 baht (USD227) for beginners.

For the less adventurous, take the glass-bottom boat ride across the shark tank and through an underwater tunnel. It’s priced at only 350 baht (USD11), and is one of our favorite Bangkok activities. This experience runs from 10am to 8pm daily.
