When you think of shopping in Bangkok, MBK Bangkok, Siam Paragon, or Chatuchak Market will most likely come to mind. These places may offer some great bargains, but did you know that there are other places in Bangkok city that can enhance your shopping experience? More than just snagging great deals, you’ll find that shopping in Bangkok can be coupled with perks like great food and the opportunity to snap some insta-worthy shots.
Here are four Bangkok malls and shopping localities to check out during your next visit to the city.
For a complete cosmopolitan experience
With a glass-and-steel facade resembling an airport, you’ll be able to spot this mall from afar. The charm of Paris, San Francisco, and Tokyo exist only an escalator ride apart among Terminal 21’s nine floors. If the mall décor isn’t enough to win you over, perhaps the variety of independent boutiques offering a range of fashionable clothing and knick-knacks with windows decorated from top to bottom will.
With so much to see and shop, don’t forget to stop for a bite at Pier 21 on the fifth floor. This food court offers a range of culinary options ranging from Hainanese Chicken Rice to the popular Mango Sticky Rice, a must-have dessert when in Thailand. Be warned – you’ll find it hard to leave the uniquely themed restrooms based on the “country” you’re in on each floor without taking a million selfies.
Located only 1.7 kilometres away from the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Sukhumvit Bangkok, it’s a two-minute taxi ride to Terminal 21. If you’re up for an easy stroll, you can even get there on foot. It’ll save you time, especially during peak traffic hours.

For your vintage hunts
Talad Rod Fai, also known as the “Train Market,” is the place to be for vintage goods. This open-air night market has everything from kitschy Che Guevara T-shirts to film projectors from the 1950s. You’ll also be able to find stalls offering foot massages for 200 baht (USD6). Don’t bother getting dinner before going either, as the market offers a wide variety of Thai food and snacks. Talad Rod Fai is open and full-of-life from 5pm until 1am. When you’ve finished browsing, grab a beer and soak up the hippy vibes under the stars.
Be sure to also check out the wide range of classic cars at the market’s Warehouse Zone, where you’ll discover an impressive collection of original vintage cars from around the world. The market is only a 25-minute ride from Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, but because it only opens from Thursdays to Sundays, make sure you plan your days accordingly.

For an upscale futuristic time
The best thing about EmQuartier mall is that it’s often less crowded than the neighboring malls, despite its location within Sukhumvit Road’s main shopping area.
At this futuristic Bangkok shopping mall, you’ll find globally-renowned designers like Louis Vuitton, Gucci, and Prada with a good collection of Thai designer brands like Pitchana, Tutti, and Cher’Z in the mix. Although known for its variety of international luxury fashion brands, EmQuartier also offers a good range of high-street brand outlets like H&M, Zara, Gap, and Uniqlo.
Amidst the shopping, don’t forget to check out the impressive rainforest chandelier – a lush patch of green that hangs from the ceiling of the Helix Quarter, one of three sections of the mall. Take a few photos for it’s not everyday you see a rainforest hanging from the ceiling! EmQuartier is only a five-minute walk from Hilton Sukhumvit Bangkok, so you can quickly return to the hotel to drop off your shopping before going out for more – we all know how this is key.
